ABC News is one of the major television news organisations in the United States. Its app brings together reporting from its correspondents, live coverage of elections and major events, and video segments from its news programs. Live updates during breaking events are especially useful, because they show new information in a clear timeline as it arrives.
A common mistake is sharing early reports during breaking events before the facts are confirmed. Initial information can be incomplete or change quickly. Follow the live updates for a while, look for confirmed details and check the time of each update before forwarding news to friends, family or social media groups that trust your messages.
Next, you will see the main features of the ABC News app, how to watch live coverage, a step-by-step setup, how live updates work, how to manage alerts and data, how to read the news critically and a short checklist to use the app as a reliable information source on your phone without paying for cable or streaming services.

|---|---|
| ABC News Live | Free streaming news channel |

How to set up the app
- Install ABC News using the official store button above.
- Open the app and allow notifications if desired.
- Tap the live section to watch ABC News Live.
- Explore sections such as politics, business and health.
- Follow live updates during major events.
- Adjust video settings to save mobile data.
How live updates work
During major events, ABC News publishes live update pages with short entries added as new information arrives. Each entry shows a time, which helps you understand how the story developed. Reading from the most recent entry back to the first gives you both the latest facts and the context.
How to manage alerts and data
- Keep alerts only for breaking news.
- Watch ABC News Live on Wi-Fi when possible.
- Disable autoplay of videos if you are on mobile data.
- Review notification settings regularly.
Reading the news critically
- Check the time of each report.
- Look for confirmed facts and official sources.
- Compare coverage from more than one news organisation.
- Be careful with screenshots shared without links.
Watching on other devices
ABC News Live is available on many streaming platforms, smart TVs and web browsers, besides the mobile app. During important events, watching on a larger screen at home can make long coverage more comfortable, while the phone lets you follow updates when you are away from the television.
Check the list of supported platforms in the app or on the ABC News website, because availability may change over time.
Using the app during severe weather
During storms, hurricanes and other severe weather, news apps provide live updates and video. Combine national coverage with your local station and official weather alerts. Charge your phone in advance and save battery by reading updates instead of watching long streams when power might be interrupted.
Privacy and permissions
The app may ask for notifications and location access. Allow only what you need and review permissions periodically in your phone settings. Adjust ad personalisation options according to your preferences.
Building a daily news routine
Instead of checking news constantly, choose a few moments each day. Read the main headlines in the morning, check live updates only during major events and read one in-depth story in the evening. A clear routine keeps you informed while protecting your focus and wellbeing.
Captions and accessibility
Live streams and many videos include captions, which help viewers with hearing difficulties and anyone watching in a noisy or quiet place. Turn captions on in the player settings. You can also increase text size in your phone settings to make articles easier to read.
These options make the app useful for more people and in more situations.
With these settings in place, the ABC News app becomes a reliable and calm way to follow important stories every day.
Stay informed, stay critical.
